On Saturday the 21st of November, Geelong Sustainability is running a Community Market Day as part of the Act on Climate Festival. This event showcases positive solutions that encourage our community to Act on Climate – to build a better, safer, future for all.

Market Day is a family fun event with market stalls, information, music, and activities. Located on the Geelong waterfront at Steampacket Gardens, the event is ideally located for a family outing.

Alternative Technology Association - Geelong EV Branch | Discussion, information and support regarding Electric Vehicle conversion.

Alternative-Technology-Association.jpgAn exhibit of cars that have been converted to electric vehicles. These vehicles have had their Internal Combustion Engine(ICE) replaced by an electric motor, which is powered by electricity stored in a battery pack located in the vehicle. The batteries are mostly located where the fuel tank used to be located, before it was removed.

Over the holiday period, the serviced population can reach 499,000 people. Providing water and sewerage services uses energy and generates carbon emissions. Barwon Water has reduced its energy use and emissions through improved efficiency, and is investigating options to reduce this further.

Information on display includes an overview of our energy and emissions profile, the carbon footprints of water and sewerage, examples of office and industrial energy efficiency, existing renewable energy projects, and potential options for medium to large scale renewable energy generation.

An exploration Petroleum Licence covers parts of Geelong and Surfcoast Shires and in 2014 Frack Free Moriac declared several towns gasfield free. Our group is a part of a larger campaign to declare Victoria gasfield free, where communities are clearly stating there is no social licence for the gas industry.

Koala Clancy Foundation | Help save wild koalas in the You Yangs

Join us to learn about and help wild koalas in the You Yangs. Koala Conservation Days for Locals run once a month and are a fun educational day for anyone interested in and willing to help create habitat for wild koalas. The story of the most famous wild koala in the world - Koala Clancy of the You Yangs, a children's book for all ages, will be available for readings by the author, and for sale. Colouring and drawing for kids will also be available, with a competition for best drawing of Koala Clancy drawn at 1pm.
